Come on out whenever you can make it. If you have any issues finding us give me a call at 7:SEVEN:2 7:EIGHT THREE:3 and I will steer you to a spot.

As for the kiddos. I plan to have mine along. As far as I am concerned if they are in a park and having fun that is the best place for them to be. If they help out it is just a bonus. A lot of cool places for them to play along the trail. And some great climbing trees as well.

We have some mowing going on this afternoon! So a good start to this big build weekend. We even have a Girl Scout troop coming out to lend a hand tomorrow morning. Not sure if they will be more of a help or hindrance, but either way it is good to have young ones out on the trails pitching in.

The weather is spectacular for this time of year! 57 degrees tomorrow. Really? Come on out and enjoy a day giving back to the trails and get us ready of the sweet winter riding to come. This weather just proves that this is not all about snow biking. There is a lot of great riding to be had around these parts in Wisconsin in all seasons. If the weather is like last year there will barely be any snow on the trails and these new trails will be easily open to all bikers all winter. But I am still praying for LOTS of snow......... ;D

So if you are not out in the woods trying to track down Bambi, please come on out and lend a hand. We plan to have some fun, build some trails, and generally enjoy the great outdoors on a great day. We will have coffee and pastries to start the morning at CamRock Sport. We will also have snacks and water for you while we are working. If you want to bring your own please feel free. We will also plan to have a beverage and sammich afterward courtesy of CamRock Sport while we sit around and enjoy the work accomplished.

Man what an amazing day today! I would love to thank everyone individually who came out and lent and hand in getting this great new trail built but I can't. There are just too many folks to thank. Over 20 people helped out today for at least some time in some way  :) Some folks made it out for a couple hours when they could. Some put in 9 solid hours of trail building. We appreciate anyone and everyone that can help out. We had all types helping out: Folks like me that are die-hard mountain bikers. We had folks just getting back into biking. We had folks who haven't mountain biked in years. Maybe they are friends with CamRock Sport and want to lend a hand. And even folks that are XC skiers from Madison that know this trail is going to make their experience better this winter as well. I truly appreaciate each and every person who came out to lend a hand.
Truly amazing. Remember when we started this thing we were wondering is it really possible to build 1 1/2 miles of trail before the snow flies? Well, after today we have well over a mile of it built. A lot of it is already rideable. And the folks who have ridden it are reporting back that it is a pretty cool trail to ride 8) Really we could ride it tomorrow if we need to. But the parts yet to be built are going to make a good trail really great. There are some nice sections on a hillside that of we can get them done will really make this trail special and make it a super cool ride as well.
I can't forget to give a HUGE thanks to Jeff at CamRock Sport for picking up the tab on lunch and a beverage today. We had a great lunch and most folks were able to stick around and we got a bunch of work done after lunch as well.

Sorry I couldn't help more, but what I saw of the trail (north of CR 1) looked awesome! Twisty through the woods, along the creek. Ellie and I moved some stuff off the trail and cut back some eye-height branches. We also took a photo at the beaver tree!

Thanks again to Jeff for breakfast this morning and all the support he and the cafe have given CORP to get this trail in. I'm not sure how the crew at CR 1 faired after I left but it is open at the north end to the left of the limestone trail. It starts between to large cottonwoods (I think). When you get to CR 1 you'll have to pop out onto the grass field and then back onto the singletrack at the south end of the field. Chuck and Steve cut a short connector to get you back onto the new trail.

    Hey guys
I apologize for my ignorance and lack of participation, my personal life has had me paying about half attention to things in our club and lucky to just get rides in...Where is all this new trail getting built?  Is there a map?

I have been waiting on a report hoping to get a map posted. Computers and the Garmin site don't want to cooperate, so I will wait no more :-[
First I can't say enough about the help we have had getting this trail built. We simply got a ton of trail work done in a VERY short time period. We had some of our usual stalwarts putting in tons of time. We had people like Tara that are local and just getting back into mountain biking again. I think she put in two back to back eight hour days! We even had non-mountain bikers pitching in. It was really nice to see the dedication and seeing everyone pitching in to get this done. Thanks again for your help. Another big thanks to CamRock Sport for feeding the crews and the beverages to make the hard work more fun. I sincerely hope everyone knows how much I appreciate the help, and hope you get out and appreciate what you have accomplished. And when you do stop in to CamRock Sport and buy a sammie and a beverage to support the local bike shop that supports us.
Where the trail is at: It is about 95% rideable. Only two 40' long sections of woods need to get cleared for everything to connect it and make it rideable.
What we have: We will be riding this trail starting tomorrow! I got to ride the trail yesterday and Mr Garmin told me I rode 1.65 miles from the bridge to CamRock Sport. So about 1.6 miles of new trail. And it has only about 40' of elevation. So it is a very different trail. It is a fun ride now. With lots of nice areas riding right along the creek. And some pretty cool features along the way. Once it gets tires on it and gets buffed in it will be even better. I can't wait to both snowbike and snowshoe it this winter!
What we could still use: For me the trail is about 85% complete. Another 3-4 hours of mowing would really make the short areas that have only been blazed through a lot better to ride. There is another 150' that is rideable that would be a lot better with some benchcutting. Otherwise there might be some slipping on sideslopes this winter with the snow bikes ;) There is also a bridge needed over a narrow drain. With some skill you can ride through it now but it is a wet hole. Josh Henry and Dave Reece have volunteered to take on the task of getting this bridge built and installed. Thanks guys! If you know how to benchcut trail and have a few hours it would be great to get this done before Mr Frost comes back. We will get a group pulled together. If you have any time to give and can run a mower you can still help get this trail buffed out and and more fun for everyone. All help is appreciated.
We finally have trails connecting all the way from Rockdale to Cambridge ;D If you can lend a hand to help put the final touches on this trail either call me at 7:SEVEN:2 7:EIGHT THREE:3, or call CamRock Sport and Cafe and ask for Jeff. Tell them you want to help finish the trail.

The bridge is in! After we finished I cut the temporary sections that bypass a section along the river that has not been bench cut. It is along the baseball field at CR I. You'll notice that some of the bench in that area is narrow. By the time we are done next spring it will be about twice as wide to allow for beginners and two way traffic. We will also be cleaning up the prairie sections to get down to the dirt. You can and should ride it now though!

Do we have a name for this trail yet? May I suggest Creekside?

Or "crick"side, as the locals would have it.

I got back out the last couple of days doing some more polishing of the trail before the snow flies:

I rounded out some the corners for better flow in the first section. I also pulled all of the pins and ribbon on that section. Got rid of some debris on the trail.

Cleaned up tools and got them back to the CR III shelter.

What could still be done if you can spare a few minutes:
    1. The first two sections could use a good blow. All this additional mowing has put a lot of organic material back onto the trail. Should take about an hour of labor for all of it.
    2. One section left to bench at CamRock I. It will really make the trail a lot easier to ride over the winter. Riding a 15% sideslope with an inch of snow on it could be a bit dicey ;) Prolly two hours of labor to finish it enough for the winter.

Last minute plans to get the last piece of trail completed before the snow flies. There is about 150' of trail that needs to be bench cut or it just won't ride once there is snow on it. Too much sideslope to ride or walk in slippery snow. And there is not a good way to bypass it.

    The plan:
When: Meeting at 8a 'til 10a tomorrow (Thursday) morning.
    Where: CamRock Sport
Why: As mentioned above. To make this trail winter rideable.

We plan to get to it and get out of there. I have a job that actually pays me money ;)
With another person or two it would make it go that much better, and we could do a better job. Call me if you can help out but have questions, can't make the meeting time, or could help out another time. 7:SEVEN:2  7:eight three:3

Trying to get better at posting people's hard work and efforts. And also fun stuff. Some of that is figuring out the best ways to use technology. So here goes.

We busted out some really sweet bench cuts this morning on the new trail. I think some of the best benching we have at CamRock. These sections would not have been ridable when the trail was either damp or snow covered.
