Things went pretty well. I think attendance was down a little from previous years, likely due to the weather. But we had a steady stream of folks through the booth, beginners wondering where to ride, a couple folks wondering about getting into racing, a few just thanking us for keeping the trails up. The teeter-totter was, predictably, a big hit. I have taken one to our block party a couple times, so I am well aware that if it is left un-supervised in the hands of 10-year-old boys it will not be long before it is turned into a catapult, so I knew to keep an eye on it. I was not prepared, though, when a dad and his three- or four-year old son came up, right as I got set up at 10:00, and said, "Is this what I think it is?" As I started to say, "I don't know, what do you think it is?", he stood his son on one end and jumped on the other. The kid went up probably two feet and came down in a heap. Before he could recover from the shock enough to cry, his dad picked him up and hustled off. After that, I kept an even closer eye. I was not expecting the 10-year-olds to come cleverly disguised as 40-year-olds.
I would definitely do it again, so keep it in mind when next June rolls around. I don't know what kind of turn-out the west-side one (Aug. 18) will get, so I am not sure if it is worth doing or not.
A couple things that would make it better for us; a big, all weather banner; Chuck thinks there is one around somewhere, but if there isn't, we might want to look into getting one. Also, the TTF's were worth having; people get a kick out of trying them, and they are attention grabbers. If anyone has ideas for ones that are easy to transport and difficult to hurt oneself on, let me know.
