Trail open after last night's rain?

    July 22, 2013, 10:03 AM

The green ball on the front page says "go", but being new to this site I don't know how reliable it is.

After last night's rain is CamRock good for a ride this afternoon?

    Thanks much,

    Tom.

I live right by CamRock. My gauge only read about 1/2". It should be OK by tonight. Afternoon might be iffy. The later the better.
And as always, if it is greasy please use your judgment and err on the side of protecting the trails.

It was bone dry out there yesterday before the rain, I can't imagine it being wet this afternoon. It also came down at a nice slow rate, which helps infiltration.

    Thanks...

We hit the trail ~3p and it was a little tacky (not greasy) with about 6 small spots that were soft with some water.

So... If one does come across a soft spot, ride through or around?

An age old question. The official recommendation is to ride through. The logic being that having a wet spot in the trail is better to be small and therefore easier to fix. If folks go around then it widens the hole and creates more trail damage.

I prefer bunny hopping any puddles :)
If the wet spot is bigger than that, then Nelson is right. And there is a good chance you should not be riding that trail.

Many of the rolling hills on the connector reroutes are holding water right at their base leaving big puddles lasting for days after a rain.  Any plans in the works to go out and do some finishing touches on that section of trail or can I go out and deberm those areas to get better drainage?

I'd say the obvious low spots that collect water are areas just waiting for an energetic volunteer to take care of the deberming.  No real approval needed in my opinion.  I figure that based on knowing that those who notice the problems are more than likely to have the trail building knowledge to do a proper job.

I will second that! As you know Thom, deberming is not "trenching". When done best and for long-term solutions it is a gentle swale the width of a Rogue Hoe handle.

Chuck,  is there some mowing that needs to be done?  I was planning to ride at CR after work tonight and could put in some work as well, but would need mower access and a size 10 shoe.  only have work shoes and mtb shoes with me.

the creekside connector between the bridges is in desperate need of mowing.

This is where the puddles were Monday afternoon, not big but looked like it would take some time for them to dry out...
