Walt has special rock-sharpening tires that he rides out there. They actually flint knap all that beautiful dolomite as he rides over it.

p.s. the rocks aren't so bad as long as you a) ride with your eyes open, and b) ride over the rocks, not around them.

I love hating that same rock, even when I look for it I manage to hit it.

Gary and I had a crash-free ride last night. Made through Pokerville, back around the mound to Home Stretch without incident.

Then we stirred up some bees.

I had a grueling, no-crash, but multiple tip overs and stall-outs, ride last night.  Singlespeed and long chainstays = not friendly at bluemounds.

Correction. Walter stirred them up, I paid the price. Twice.

Apparently trail maintenance responsibilities don't include bee keeping. Or maybe they do, Walter is a master apiarist, and he sicced his bees on me in an effort to beat me to the finish line.

Where would one find these bees? Going to be there tomorrow and I don't want a repeat of W24  :'(

Not exactly sure but they were on Home Stretch, seemed like it was a couple hundred yards from the start of the descent. It might have been before the gravel crossing, even.

Sounds like German yellow jackets to me. A ground nesting and extremely aggressive wasp. Of the hundreds of species of bees that live around here I don't think any of them will sting unless their life is directly threatened.

My neighbor just had a ground nest he had to get rid of. Amazing to watch the constant stream of bees in and out of the hole in the ground.
I had not seen a nest of these since I was a kid. Bad memory. My little brother, maybe 5 at the time, chased a ball that went into the hole that was thier nest. Thousands of stings. In his hair, clothes, even underwear. Then a fast 30 mile drive to the hospital from our farm. Luckily he managed it OK and just a day in hospital.
I would say ride fast through there! Speed is your friend.

William and I rode the same area where Gary got stung today.

No problems.
