Bikes, Brats, and Beer at Blue Mound on Saturday September 14th

    September 15, 2013, 09:29 AM

Blue Mounds is so much fun!  Over Lode is a sweet trail, too.  Walt, thanks for hosting this.  My only request:  Next time please specify the beer you're bringing so I know if I need to bring my own.  I am an admitted beer snob and like brown and black ales, porters, and stouts, not the hoppy trendy stuff so popular now.

    Thanks again.

I'm curious.....how much was Walt charging for beer?   ;)

If you either read the initial post or were there, you'd know.  He used club money to buy beer and food; if anyone uses club money to do something like that, one should make an effort to get something that everyone likes.  Like him and other stewards, I spent a decent amount of my time, experience, and resources helping make the trails better.  Asking for a couple of bottles of dark ale (not lager) shouldn't be a big deal.  And that's what I was doing: asking.  I made no demands, no threats.

Even though time constraints pulled me (along with Dewayne) away from the main group, it was really nice to see all the familiar faces in the parking lot and out on the trails.  As always Blue Mounds is a real treat to ride, it's a special thing to have such a distinctively challenging trail nearby.  With the recent trend to build every trail to flow so perfectly it's refreshing when the trail makes you work to find it, Blue Mounds is a lady among tramps.

Thanks walt. Great ride, great company, great beer.  Unfortunately, also an expensive ride for me. In addition to ruini g my shoes and tearig my brand new rear tire, when I got home, I noticed that the rock that killed my tire also gouged my rim from the top of the rimwall down, in addition to putting a nice dent into it.

I had a greAt time with everyone! Thanks to everyone who came out, especially to Walt for putting this together and Bob for again supplying the parking lot entertainment!

I found a nice new Camelback water bottle in the Blue Mound Parking lot on the way out Saturday night. If you lost it, please let me know and I'll hang on to it for you.

DeWayne: Your point about the beer selection is a good one. I don't know non-hoppy beers well at all. I thought the Spaten Oktoberfest would sit well with anyone who didn't like big hops, and obviously I was wrong. Again, thanks very much for all you've contributed to CORP and best wishes with the new gig. I hope we will be crossing paths in the future.

Hey now, what would Cam Rock say if she heard that?  ;D

Just a note:  I brought a sixer of dunklesbier that I added to the pot; so there was some darker, non-hoppy beer available.

    Everybody rides Cam-Rock.  She's a good tramp.

Different types of tramps.  Bluemounds is a punishing ride that wrecks your equipment, gives you scabs and bruises, yet makes you come back for more; Camrock is a fast ride on a well-groomed trail that lets you have a blast in the outback.

I haven't wrecked equipment at Blue Mounds for years. Neither has Walt, to my knowledge. I get a bruise here and there, but I get more to my ego, and confidence, mosquitoes, and sweat are my biggest enemies out there. I'd like to see someone match my dirt socks when I'm done with a ride.

That said, it was good riding with everyone and meeting new people. The post-ride fun was pretty epic, also. It was unfortunate I had to cut my ride short, just too much for one day.

    Tim,

I must've left before that hit the cooler.  Thanks, anyway.
