The only thing worse than the tought of pushing a bike through 167 miles of dirt in nasty, west, windy conditions is the thought of doing so on my 45 lb Pugs.     So, instead I am going to give it a go on my 3 speed fixed Nature Boy.

Don't knock it til you've tried it.
Funny. I would think the only thing worse would be to do it on a fixie :P
Of course my 907 is svelte at just 31 pounds ;D

A fixie might not be all that bad actually, it's not like there's a lot of coasting that you'd be missing out on.

    Yep, constant pedaling anyway.

Perhaps a fixed fatty is the ultimate balls rig?

A Krampus would be a really interesting bike for BALLS.

this is the ONLY way to ride a rail trail IMO (I have never been on the Cheesy County Trail).  It's like riding on a flywheel.  Plus if you start to nod off from all the boredo..... I mean scenery, your buddies don't notice cause your feet keep moving.

Old steel frame with lots of tire clearance is a very nice set up.

    REGISTRATION DETAILS!!!!!!!

So, I've heard about this thing called the BALLS ride and now I want "in"!!!

First off keep in mind due to sleeping space there is a FIFTY-FIVE rider limit.

There will be a few changes for 2014 due to how fast the ride filled last year and wanting to guarantee that a good group can benefit from BALLS.

The first change is that BALLS is flying in the face of the free race movement and charging an astronomical fee of $40 for lodging and food.  Yep, you read it here first, it's going to cost you forty smackers for sweet lodging, a ton of food, beer, and warm showers.  The ride itself is self-supported with a SAG wagon only for dire emergencies.  There it is.....$40.  I know, I know, it's getting to be an elitist snob filled affair with the price hike!

Probably the biggest change is that BALLS is giving preference to past participants for one day only.  Have you ridden a previous iteration of BALLS and want in on the action for 2014?  You best get your registration e-mail in on 3/1/2014!

Change number three is that payment is entirely by check (in person or through the mail) this year.  No more paypal.  All checks written to me (Scott Baryenbruch).

Pay Attention!  Here's how you get in.  This all takes place on 3/1/2014!!

    1. If you have ridden in a previous year of BALLS shoot me an e-mail on 3/1/2014 with your desire to once again join the party in 2014 (scott@madcitydirt.org).  I will send you a confirmation e-mail ASAP to let you know that you are on the roster.  The next thing I need from you is $40.   I'll add your name to the roster when I get your e-mail.....please drop payment in the mail as soon as possible.  The worst part of organizing this is having to remind people to pay.  Make life easy and as soon as you get the confirmation e-mail drop a check in the mail.

    2. Haven't ridden in BALLS before?  Starting on 3/2/14 I will post the roster and open up any remaining slots so you can join as a first timer.  Remaining spots will be filled on a first-come first-served basis via e-mailing me your desire to be on the roster anytime on or after 3/2/2014(scott@madcitydirt.org).  I will send you a confirmation e-mail if you get in or, and I hate to have to do this, a rejection e-mail if the ride already filled.  If you get in I'll add your name to the roster.  Mail me payment ASAP.

    3. I will keep a five person waitlist in the event that anybody cancels or doesn't complete payment by 4/1/2014.  All entries are non-refundable.  If you get in, send payment, and then bail on the ride we will use your entry fee to buy more beer!

    Questions?  Fire away.......

can't say i'd even want to attempt eating a dish someone brought which they carried on a bike for an entire day.  yummmmmmy!
maybe we're onto something here.  bob trailer with a cooler of food we take turns pulling.  however, iced beer and drinking along the way sounds much better.

It wasn't quite the entire day, but that Culver's Breakfast Scramwich I had after carrying it for about half the day last year was sure yummy.

yeah, that was clutch.  may pick up a bucket of Potato Oles the night b4.  Snacking on those all day at Cheq100 last year worked quite well.  Thanks for that tip Rich......
