Buy this: http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/bik/4367587911.html Really good bike, especially to start out on. A few cheap upgrades like tires and bars/stem would make it super good, I have tires and a stem I'd sell ya too. So for under $500 you could get a pretty nice dirt jumper!

Otherwise there are some nice used but built up mountain bikes over at Dream Bikes (Beltline frontage road).
