A Note on the Trail Conditions

There are many new riders out this spring, and perhaps some old riders who aren't sure how the trail conditions get updated, so here's a refresher.

There are two places to check trail conditions: our website and on Facebook.

Explanations of the various conditions can be found here.

We try hard to keep trail conditions accurate and up-to date. But there are some things you should know:

    • The status is posted by volunteers who aren’t always able to visit the trails. They are very familiar with the trails and their reaction to different weather conditions, but circumstances don’t always allow them to physically check things out, so sometimes they are making an educated guess. If you have a chance to visit the trail and find different conditions, speak up. Post on Facebook or the Forum, or email the Trail Steward. We always appreciate having first-hand information.

    • Q: It’s raining and the condition report says open; or Q: it hasn't rained since yesterday, but the trails are still closed. What’s up? A: Again, volunteers are not always able to update the conditions immediately when they change. Sometimes you need to use your own judgement.

    • The status of any given trail may not be updated if the conditions haven't changed. So, generally, a post that is a few days old will be accurate. If it seems like the weather has changed, you may want to visit the trail and see for yourself, but more than likely, an older post will be accurate.

The bottom line is that the postings here are best viewed as guides, not as law. They are intended to help prevent you making the trip out only to find the trails closed, but the conditions you encounter ultimately determine whether the trails should be ridden. IF YOU ARE LEAVING RUTS IN THE TRAIL SURFACE, YOU SHOULD NOT BE RIDING. This goes for summer and winter. Err on the side of caution. Riding soft trails is hard on the trail, isn't that much fun, and detracts from the experience of those who come after you.

    Thanks!

Always click through on the Facebook post to view the most recent status for that trail on madcitydirt.com.

There's a slight delay in the trail conditions getting posted on Facebook, and if you're viewing condition reports in your newsfeed those can sometimes be very out of date. When you click through you'll see the most up to date information.

    Thanks!
