Couple of great rides today. This morning the trails were bomber. Really no need to stick to a trail. Snow was hard enough to ride anywhere. Lots of fun exploring.

This evening with the new snow and warmer temps I stuck to the trails. Creekside was great. The bridge ride over is solid to ride. If I don't break thought the ice, prolly none of you will. IMBA Influence and Outback were fun as well. Rode a number of the features. Kept thinking we should have had a Monday night ride going. A few bikes packing trail would make for some more sweet riding.
Rode the Connector from the Expert Woods to Rip N' Ride and back. Hard enough to ride over the snow with some effort. WInd was whipping and temps plummeting by the time I turned back.

The next week should be awesome riding. The best riding will be to get out when it is cold. Then you can ride anywhere. If you get out before the sun softens the trail. If it is softer stick to the packed loop near Cambridge.

Conditions are not changing much from earlier post. Conditions are bomber early when cold and before the sun hits. Today that meant trails softening by about 10a. Before that and it was a blast riding everything in site. After and it was still good on Expert Woods and Creekside. Expert woods was my favorite with trails packed and smooth for fast riding. Though flying over 2' of bomber snow is a blast as well. Basically it was a ton of fun riding today!
Oh yeah. I think I got some first dibs on the year as well. Cleared Big Cherry, Pain In The Neck, Dragons Back, and The Arch today as well. I think firsts for Big Cherry and The Arch as i have not seen tracks over them yet this year ;-) I was in a groove. Fun, fun!

Nice work man. I miss riding trails so much.  Hope to be trying out a new fat bike soon.

Thought I would post an update on the trails.  They are still in pretty good bomber shape.  A few places have dirt showing through, which means they are mud when sufficient sun has hit them for the day.  I got out there around 9am and rode loops for a couple hours.  I probably would have ridden longer, but the trails started softening around 10:30, so I headed back to Cambridge.  The trails I rode...

Creekside Connecter:  Yep, bomber.  Rideable with 2.25" tires in entirety.  On the return trip, I had to detour a couple times because exposed mud was no longer frozen.
Veritas loop:  Rideable except for a couple corners with drifting from the field.  Also watch for slick ice at a few times (especially the last bit when returning along the creek to the bridge).
Outback/Expert Loop:  I pushed about 1/2 the time when riding the wrong way, about a 1/4-1/3 when riding the correct direction.  Large portions had drifting from the last snow.  I powered through a couple sections, but I am guessing even a moonie would have issues at times.

It's supposed to be cold tonight, so I would guess a morning ride would be fruitful tomorrow again, maybe even Thursday and Friday mornings.  After that, all bets are off (50 degrees for Saturday!).

Thanks for the update to the trails foto. Glad to hear the trails are still hard packed.
It appears as we are all new to this snowbiking thing we have to work on our definitions. Bomber as I understand it from fatbike.com and other sources is not the same as hard packed trails. It is snow frozen hard enough to ride over.
The snow was hard enough when really cold to be bomber the last coupe of weeks. In other words you could ride anywhere. There was no need for a packed trail. All the snow was frozen hard enough to ride over, aka bomber. I am out of town now. But I would guess it is not getting cold enough for bomber snow.
And for Josh, the word bomber as been added to this post five times ;)
